Creepin' Back

I know, I know i'm a terrible blogger! I've abandoned you all for months on end but I do have a valid excuse I promise! I've been away looking after my sisters kids for the summer sans laptop and stupidly forgot to take my camera charger too and therefore couldn't even store up photos for you! Don't worry i've given myself a severe talking to and have promised to be better behaved!

And i'm back to tell you about my growing love for a particular style of shoe. I first wanted a pair about three years ago seeing some on vintage clothing website Candy Says. I regret not buying them but at the time I was after more of a Twiggy kind of look and bought some rather beautiful 1960's Modette 1.5 in heels instead.

I have searched for another pair but never found any that caught my eye. Until recently that is. Now they're everywhere and in every conceivable colour. I am talking about of course the Brothel Creeper.

The Brothel Creeper, originally worn by soldiers in World War Two, were picked up by Teddy Boys who wore them with drainpipe trousers, both now very popular with the recent androgyny trend.

Phillip Lim - Girls on Bikes

I came across this this morning, well with a little help from Twitter anyway! But I do have a strange love of these fashion films and have showed them here in the past, this one by Phillip Lim entitled Girls on Bikes (and you'll see why when you watch it) is incredibly crisp and fresh and beautiful, I just couldn't resist sharing it with you.

I'M SO SORRY!!

I'm writing this from behind a cushion, hiding my embarrassment at having abandoned my lovely readers for so long. I'm also waving a white flag hoping that you're all kind enough to forgive me for doing so.

And i'm still not completely back but I do have an excuse, packing up two families to move across the country does not leave much time to do much else.

However, I pinky promise that I will be back soon and will leave you with this video by Lernert and Sander featuring the model Hannelore Knuts, THIS is what a years worth of make up looks like ladies (and gents!)

I'm baaaaccck!!

Well it has been a while hasn't it! A lot's been going on including my laptop having a complete hissy fit and breaking (probably due to being lugged around the country a fair few times!)

So last time we spoke I was home for Easter break and i'm sorry to say that i've now decided that University was a really REALLY bad idea. So after yet again travelling down south to pick up my stuff i'm now home, for good. Well apart from the month and a half over summer when i'll be looking after my sister's little cherubs.

Now some of you will be thinking, WHAT?! How could you give up uni, especially when you were doing so well on such a great course?! Well yes I was doing really well and the course was great but a word of advice, when choosing your university, make sure the city is right for you, which Southampton wasn't for me, I wasn't happy there at all! And yes I am much happier back up north with, as my best friend puts it "Normal people, well maybe not normal but at least we belong!"

I've bought a new laptop, and will be carrying on with my dream of becoming a writer and with this blog just minus the prospect of a piece of paper, otherwise known as a degree!

Sorry this post is a bit of something and nothing but i'm trying to get to grips with a new machine (so not tech savvy) and after i've been to Edinburgh next weekend you will have lovely new posts to look forward to, thank you for being so patient with me!!

What's New?

I'm so lucky to know so many talented, wonderful photographers, and even more lucky that they want to photograph little old me!

Recently I did a collaboration as a stylist with Charley Miller, a very talented photographer whose work you can see at her blog: We Have Faith 


We had a discussion about how no fashion trend is new any more and that modern fashions have come and gone before and will come and go again. This inspired a project in Charley where she focussed on the 1960's, and I was happy to lend my styling to it.


I also modelled for the project and here are some of Charley's favourite images from the shoot:

Hips Don't Lie. (Unfortunately)

There is staple wardrobe items that apparently every woman should own. I don't think I own any of them apart from maybe a pair of black trousers but they've never been worn since I stopped being a waitress two years ago. Oh and about seven LBD's but that's more down to the fact that they're beautiful dresses rather than being a staple. I don't own a pair of black court shoes, I don't own a white shirt and I most certainly (as you're about to find out) don't own a pair of jeans!

You see jeans are a bit of a sore subject for me, I find it impossible to find any that fit me. My trouble is I think I have an odd body shape, i'm slim yet curvy, my top half is a 6-8, yet my bottom half seems to differ day to day, it is no smaller than a size 10.

So what's the problem I hear you ask, just buy size 10 jeans, but no, in jeans I appear to be no size, when a pair fit comfortably on the waist, they're stretched to oblivion everywhere else, when they fit comfortably on my very curvy derrière they gape at the waist. Sometimes I can't even get them above the knee and end up leaving the changing room in more than a bit of a huff.

So sadly today I came to the conclusion that I am destined to live my life in dresses, which is fine by me, I love dresses and they're great for disguising my rotund hips and bum but there are days where i'd quite like to dress down in a pair of skinny jeans and a white t-shirt pretending to be James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause, and unfortunately that dream is over for me.
