I Heart Henry

I've been all over the place lately so apologies for not posting, but I went to visit my brother and his family and then went home to see my sister's brand new baby, oh it was so nice to be in the north again, I always get a little bit excited when I know i'm near Sheffield because then I know where I am and I know i'm north bound, even if there's still another two and a half - three hours to go from there!

Well just a quick one tonight but I had to show you these two videos. The first is the House of Holland catwalk show from LFW and the second is Henry Holland's first fashion film which is deliciously tongue in cheek and as hilarious as I imagine Henry to be when I imagine me, him and Grimmers (Nick Grimshaw) to be best friends...

ANYWAY...

Oh and a little bit of news, I found out today I won a beautiful Mina shirt dress in a giveaway by the lovely Mademoiselle Robot and also i'm getting my tattoo outline done on Saturday, so excited, I went to see the design this morning and it's beautiful. Have to wait for the first ever tattoo convention in Southampton - Titanic Ink for the colour but the outline's getting done Saturday!

Hello Boys!

I know how everyone looks forward to the glitzy award shows, who's wearing who, who arrives with who, sorry who are you?

Well tonight is the night of the Grammy's in America which apart from the fact my beloved Bob Dylan is performing as is good old Mick Jagger, i'm not too interested in that one, especially as i've heard Lady Gaga has turned up in some sort of egg or womb or something as equally horrific.

But the BAFTA's, that's something different, these are people that we here in the UK feel comfortable with, they're the ones on our t.v. screens, in our cinemas (in films we actually watch) and in our newspapers and magazines.

I was delighted when I got an e-mail from www.marieclaire.co.uk (If you don't subscribe to their e-mails, then I definitely recommend doing so) the e-mail was a sneak preview of the outfits snapped as the stars walked down the red carpet.

Now obviously the women looked stunning, one in particular which you will see in a moment, but the dresses on a whole weren't anything amazing, not to me anyway. The men on the other hand! Wow! The looked stunning and they were dressed impeccably! So enough of me jabbering on, here is my pick of the BAFTA red carpet.

Not too shabby!

I mentioned the other day that new rollers had been delivered and I was sat with a head full of them. Well after my trip to The Vintage Hair Lounge in Southampton and seeing how beautifully Gloria did my hair I thought that i'd attempt something myself. So after washing and part drying my hair I put my rollers in, and sat with them in for the majority of the day. Luckily I didn't have to go out that day so it was my experimenting day.

But because of this reason I thought id have a go at pin curls too, so the front of the right side of my hair was pin curled and the rest in rollers, I took them all out and gave it a brush before bedtime, adding just a few rollers to the top. This is what I looked like going to sleep, and I wonder why i'm single! (Ha!)

I honestly didn't have too high hopes for what was going to happen during the night, i'm usually one of those annoying people who can never get comfy and thought i'd wake up with a bird's nest on top of my bonce! But for once I don't think I moved once my head hit the pillow - I don't think I dared! And so lo and behold, in the morning, rollers out, comb through, couple of grips and THIS is what happened:

TA-DA!! Not bad for a first attempt hey! And i'm working my way up to victory rolls, that's my mission for the weekend, i'll let you know how it goes but i'm sure practice makes perfect!

Jack-of-all-trades

One thing I really hate, and I’m sure some, if not most of you do too is being put on the spot by a question, my mind doesn’t just seem to be able to come up with an answer just like that, I like to have time to digest the question and really think about my answer. Even simple things like giving directions or what’s your favourite film? My mind goes Errrrrmm if I’m not given time to think.

So here’s the latest one: “What is your passion?” I’ve been struggling with this question for about three days now, like I said my mind doesn’t come up with answers immediately, I’d be terrible on a quiz show!

The truth is, I tend to think - sad as this may seem - that I don’t have a passion. There was not one thing that came to mind that I could think to talk about in relation to passions. Don’t get me wrong, I have lots of interests and will say that I ‘Love’ a lot of things but a passion? For me that’s just too strong a word.

For example I am a huge Beatles fan, massive in fact but I’m also a huge Bob Dylan fan and a huge Tom Petty fan, it’s not purely Beatles, Beatles, Beatles. Surely if it was then that would be my passion.

I love vintage clothes, but I don’t only wear vintage clothes like some others do, so I couldn’t really say that was my passion like it is for some bloggers such as Jeni at Yesterday Girl or Fleur at Diary of a Vintage Girl.

I could go on and on with a list of everything that I love and then a reason why I wouldn’t class it as a passion, but I won’t. I’ll just say, that even though I don’t have one answer to this particular question, I think I’m lucky. I may not have a passion but I have hundreds of things that I love and am really interested in.

My interests are multi dimensional, and I know quite a lot about each one. I always have something new to look at or read or watch, life’s less boring that way and I quite like being a Jack-of-all-trades rather than a master of just one.

Chanel Makes Me Happy

Three things have cheered me up this morning and I had to share them with you. Firstly while sat with wet hair debating what to do with it my new velcro rollers arrived and my hair was saved. Secondly, while sat with rollers in my hair another knock on the door was the postman delivering my brand new Style Me Vintage book by Belinda Hay which I will be devouring later.

And then I came across this:

Which as you can imagine just filled me with delight. I hope it's cheered up your Tuesday too!

New Hair Alert!

I mentioned in my last post that I was going to get my hair done, and well I couldn't tell you that and then NOT show you the results now could I!

As you know I do have curly hair, but the curls are a bit scruffy and drop really quickly which is frustrating so I decided to do something I haven't done since I was 14 years old and get a perm. The trouble with getting a perm in 2011 is, where on earth does perms?! And where would do one well?

Enter the Vintage Hair Lounge in Southampton. They specialise in vintage hair styles for both men and women, so I though THIS is the place for me!

Gloria, my stylist, washed my hair to get rid of any product, permed it, washed the perming solution out then set my hair in rollers and this is the finished result. I think it's absolutely beautiful!

The flower was made by Classy Chassis, who are at the Hair Lounge on Thursday and Friday evenings from 5-8. They sell hand made clothes to your exact size from original 1950's patterns, and a range of different fabrics.

The real test will be if I can recreate this look myself. I'll keep you updated!

The cutest moustache in the world!

I think I was feeling a little whimsical at the beginning of this week, and purchased something that perhaps I usually wouldn't. But then maybe i'm just carrying on with the theme of doing things that are a little out of the ordinary for me.

I love all the websites there are at the minute selling unusual jewellery, in fact I love them so much that when I come across a new one it goes straight into my bookmarks bar on Chrome. But i've never bought anything from any of them before, I just check in every once in a while to see what's new in the wonderful world of jewellery.

This week however, I came across a new jewellery website to me, and that was Sunday Girl Accessories and there were some things that I just couldn't resist. So I ordered the Tiny Moustache Necklace in black with a gold chain, and the Simple Bird Brooch in Gold. They arrived this morning and are absolutely the cutest things i've ever seen, especially the moustache!

I'm wearing the necklace today but you'll have to wait until I find the right outfit for the brooch to see that. I could have ordered a lot more from this website but am trying (and failing miserably) to keep my spending down at the minute, and am about to spend a fortune at the hairdressers tomorrow which doesn't help matters!

What's the Point in Black & White Movies? You can't see the lipstick

I'm sure you all read the countless features in the beauty pages of magazines this January urging us all to try something new for 2011. Just how many of you did?

I did. Two new shades of lipstick have been added to my make-up collection. Two that I would have liked but probably never bought before but as my new years resolution was to take risks and to try new things I thought why not?

This first one is 'Thrillin' Brazillian' by Benefit. It's a little darker than the photo has made it look, probably due to the flash but it's lovely and stays on for hours, only needing touch ups, not full reapplication.

The second is 'Pink Brandy' by Max Factor Colour Collections, now this one has come out a little darker than it actually is, due to the fact that the flash didn't go off this time! It's a coral-pink and a really fun shade. This will last all day, I didn't need to reapply at all.
